What to wear

You can train in a gi if you have one. If not, just come in fitted athletic clothes for your first class and we will supply you with a trial gi. We will help you get everything you need once you are ready to continue.

If you decide to sign up and keep training, we require all students to wear our team gi. It helps keep the space clean, consistent, and connected. It also reflects the standard we train with together.

No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu

Train without the Gi. Focus on control, positioning, and precision.

In No-Gi, the grips change. But the fundamentals matter just as much as they do in the gi. Without collars or sleeves to hold onto, you rely more on timing, positioning, and body control. The pace is faster, and every adjustment becomes more important.

No-Gi classes are taught with the same structure and attention to detail as our gi training. You will start with movement drills, work through one or two techniques, and finish with rolling. Each part of class builds on the last, helping you develop real skill through consistent training and calculated adjustments under pressure.

Training in No-Gi sharpens your timing, improves your sensitivity to movement, and helps you develop cleaner technique. These skills carry over into your gi training and give you a better understanding of what works in both settings.

It also teaches you how to stay composed when the pace picks up, which is valuable not just in competition, but in real-world situations where control matters.

Whether you are here to compete, cross-train, or explore another side of Jiu Jitsu, No-Gi will challenge you in ways that help you grow.

Team Marcelo Pereira is a super welcoming place with amazing coaches. They are very supportive of adults with no experience, and their fundamentals class really is perfect for beginners. The coaches are always very encouraging, and they also take safety seriously, making sure you and your partners stay safe whole rolling. It can be intimidating starting a new sport as an adult, especially as a female, but they foster such a supportive and welcoming environment that anyone will feel at ease and be able to make friends quickly!
